Bonavista and Trinity

John Cabot landed in 1497 in what is not called Bonivista, the replica of his boat is shown below.  Bonivista became a major fishing and sealing center.  The Ryan Premises Natl. Historic Site is here that commemorates the cod fishing industry and it's impact on the people, a great site to visit.  Unfortunately the cod were almost fished out and the industry is a fraction of what it used to be. The Premises is the facility of a successful business man with his home, fish processing building, salting building, store and his home.

South of Bonivisa is village of Trinity that was a major wooden ship building center, not just a pretty village to visit with b&b's, playhouse, restaurants, historic buildings, etc.  It booms in the summer but in the winter has 30 residents.  A number of summer homes are owned by US and other Canadian folks.  We attend a play last night that I would have paid another admission price to leave after the first 10 minutes, oh well, you win some and loose some.

We are departing Trinity for some SE destination, don't know where we will stop for the night.  We will depart NL on the 17th on a ferry from Argentia, NL to NS.

Pics, harbor Bonavista, fish flakes-where they dry the cod, Cabot's boat, Ryan Premises and Cape Bonivista Lighthouse.

Trinity pics, town, homes in town and St Pauls Anglican church
